Q: What does it take to make Lampshades?

A: This is a specialised business and we have spent 11 years investigating all the specialised glue used for attaching wallpapers, tiles and fabrics. We have explored into collecting drift wood from Muriwai Beach and gluing them onto Lampshades. We have a wide range of designs and the means to make them reality. Alot of our works originate from french designs.

You can't just start designing lampshades, they are very specailised and require alot of delicate planning and equipment. You can't just use any glue, you don't want to end up with water content or run marks. You have to come to us, these are custom made. We have a variety of ceiling Roses, two electricians that put the wiring together with only the best Reeves fittings, they are Powder coated and laminated and made in New Zealand.

Q: Can I clean my Lampshade upholestry?

A: Yes, you can start by cleaning the inside with a damp cloth and some methylated spirits. On the outside you can start off by using a white stabler rubber or the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner on low, or a soft brush. If the mark has ceased to be removed and if its a cotton shade you can use a small amount of sunlight soap, but dampen the entire shade  as you don't want any watermarks to appear. When it comes to cleaning the diffuser plate (the bottom of the lampshade) all of Calder Interior's diffusers have the ability to go in and out of the shade which is best cleaned with a micro cloth or methylated spirits.

Q: Why are there no prices on the website?

A: As a designer you get a more affordable prices than the public, they are all custom made, are all different and have specifications to the lampshades, everything is priced and arranged through the manufacturers as the materials are ordered. With the extensive range of fabrics, we design as the client requests then we establish a price as the work is developed.
